New PandaX Low Mass WIMP Result

The PandaX experiment has a new result on the arXiv focusing on low mass WIMPs. While they’re not quite as low as CDMS in that region, they are competitive with the other xenon-based experiments and show that there’s still room for improvement in using xenon TPCs to search for low mass (<10 GeV) WIMPs. PandaX is also interesting because it’s (to the best of my knowledge) the first potentially major dark matter experiment to be based in China. Like the LUX and XENON experiments, PandaX uses dual phase xenon TPCs as their detectors. The target volume is liquid xenon, while electrons are extracted into a gas phase where they can be amplified in a strong electric field.
