Proposal for Short-Baseline Neutrino Program at Fermilab

A proposal for the short-baseline neutrino oscillations program at Fermilab appeared on the arXiv on Friday. The proposal discusses using three different liquid argon detectors at different positions within 1 km from the target for the booster neutrino beam. Two of the detectors are already completed or nearing completion while the third is still being planned.

The main purpose of the short-baseline program is to study neutrino oscillations. In particular, newer experiments are planned to resolve various anomalies seen in other experiments, search for evidence of sterile neutrinos, and measure neutrino oscillation parameters by looking for things like electron neutrino appearance and muon neutrino disappearance.
